CAO Bridging The Gap
The Council for Airport Opportunity (CAO) is a not for profit trade association created in 1972 through a partnership of airline companies, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and including the Mayor's Offices of the City of Newark and City of New York and the Federal Aviation Administration. The CAO's mission is to promote the growth and development of job opportunities in the aviation industry for residents of the communities surrounding the New Jersey and New York metropolitan airports while at the same time responding to the human resource needs of airport employers. Unquestionably, the aviation industry represents a huge segment of the metropolitan region's employment base. Staffed with qualified, caring professionals, CAO is committed to providing its business partners with well-prepared community residents who are eager to embark on careers in the aviation industry.

CAO uses an extensive, time-tested applicant review system to screen potential candidates before they are referred to our business partners. The aviation industry is now faced with increasing security pressures and the need to ensure that it receives applicants who can withstand the rigorous scrutiny now in place. CAO only refers those candidates who have the requisite documentation to complete the ten-year background check mandated by Federal law.

CAO - Today
Now in its fourth decade, CAO has a demonstrated track record of servicing its clients and has maintained a position as a unique and important entity in the region. We have provided quality service to the unemployed and disadvantaged. CAO continues its innovative approach to matching applicants with employers; through classroom programs designed to improve job skills; providing ESL training to bridge the gap between language barriers; by educating prospective employees about the realities of an employer's expectation; acknowledging the career opportunities in the construction industry apprenticeships programs; and by providing internships opportunities in the aviation industry for college students. CAO is dedicated to its mission - and will continue to provide qualified, skilled employees who can meet the needs of an ever-changing and demanding work world.

The CAO is ready, willing and able to assist its business partners in meeting the challenges of hiring a suitable work force. With offices in Jamaica, downtown Newark, Jersey City and at Newark's Liberty International Airport we are easily accessible. CAO has established on-site career centers at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport locations, which can be used for specialized training requirements, small group seminars and interviewing sessions. With the continued support by our partners, we optimistically look into the future with a plan for growth and expansion of service.
